On Monday, January 20, 2020, the students and faculty of Bertram Elementary recognized Martin Luther King Jr. Day as a day of service. Students participated in small acts of service and kindness that left a big impact on our community.
PreK & Kindergarten raised $311 for the Joann Cole Mitte Memorial Library who partners with us throughout the year to provide quality experience for our students. Students brought in any spare coins they could find to raise "Pennies for Books." They were excited to give back to the town library that does so much for our littlest bulldogs throughout the year.
First Graders made Valentine's day card for our local nursing home. They also cleaned up in the pavillion and surrounding areas. Students spent much of the day learning about all the different accomplishments of Martin Luther King Jr. Lessons emphazed King's philosophy of peaceful resolution to conflicts and injustices.
Our Second Graders wrote letters and created illustrations for the Bertram Nursing Home. Teachers discussed the importance of staying connected to our families and community. Hearts were full when they shared their letters.
Bertram Third Graders made a difference for our school by policing the track. Students went above and beyond by creating some natural art to beautify the space.
Fourth Grade students studied Martin Luther King Jr. and the impact he had on civil rights. They wrote letters of appreciation to the Bertram Fire Department, and picked up debris around the Classic Building.
5th Grade students wrote letters of appreciation to the Bertram Library, identified traits they admire in heros, and beautified the front of our school.
As Martin Luther King Jr. once said, "Everybody can be great...because everybody can serve." The students and staff at Bertram Elementary are great! We have an amazing Day of Service.
