Board Considers Tax Ratification Election

On July 11 the Board of Trustees will consider calling for a Tax Ratification Election (TRE). If approved, the overall tax rate would decrease from $1.28 to $1.26 and the District would receive approximately $600,000 annually in additional funding.
If approved by voters, the Tax Ratification Election (TRE) would lower the overall tax rate from $1.28 to $1.26 and the District would receive approximately $600,000 annually in additional operating revenue that the State cannot take away. This is accomplished by raising the District's M&O tax rate by 2 cents while at the same time lowering the District's I&S tax rate by 4 cents. It is important to know that under state law, the two pennies used to increase the M&O rate are considered "golden" and therefore any money raised by the two pennies are not subject to recapture and must stay in Burnet CISD.
