Kimberly McKinzey

Dyslexia Therapist

I am excited to be the dyslexia therapist at Bertram Elementary.  This is my 23rd year in education and my 20th year working with dyslexic students.  I am a Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT) as well as a Licensed Dyslexia Therapist (LDT).

I work hard to help my students crack the reading code and gain confidence in their reading ability.  I want each student to be successful and develop a love of reading.

I teach Take Flight:  A Comprehensive Intervention for Students with Dyslexia.  This  program contains the five components of effective reading instruction supported by the National Reading Panel.  These five components are:  phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and reading comprehension.  My classes meet daily for 45 minutes and work hard on these five components.

Your child will have homework from my class Monday through Thursday.  This usually consists of reading words or sentences or practicing cursive handwriting.  This homework will be something we have already done in class and should only take a few minutes.  Reading at home is important because it allows your child to apply the skills we are learning.

Parent/teacher communication is very important to me so please let me know if you have any questions.  Email is the best way to contact me.  My email address is [email protected]  and my phone number is 512-355-2111.  My conference time is 10:00-10:45.
